Are you pregnant? And living in a city?
The record-breaking heat waves so many of us have been experiencing aren’t just uncomfortable for you — they’re also potentially dangerous.
Pregnant people are more at risk of heatstroke, while extreme heat has been linked to still and premature births, according to the @who
But as temperatures continue to climb, is your city doing enough to protect you?
Reporter Louise Donovan spoke to Cassie Sunderland from @C40CitiesLive Cities about what measures cities — from Freetown in Sierra Leone to India’s Ahmedabad — are putting in place to help.

Illustrator @hildeatalanta1157 is the brains behind The Vulva Gallery
A once-thriving #Instagram account filled with Atalanta’s colourful drawings of vulvas in all shapes and sizes. Their work had reached hundreds of thousands of people online, helped many feel less insecure about their bodies, and was used as educational tools by the UK’s NHS and Planned Parenthood.
The content was even featured in #Netflix’s hit show Sex Education.
So why did Instagram suspend the page two weeks ago?
The platform says The Vulva Gallery didn’t follow community guidelines but creators who post about bodies, sexuality and sexual health have long accused Instagram and other social platforms of applying the rules incorrectly to them, resulting in accounts being suspended or made more difficult for users to find.
“It’s frustrating to me that it [The Vulva Gallery] is being flagged as nudity or sexualized nudity because it is…just not what this project is about,” Atalanta told Louise Donovan

Are you a gig worker? Listen up – the way you earn money could soon change.
Last Friday, after weeks of negotiations, the world’s government agreed at the International Labour Organization that a ‘gig worker’ could be defined as an employed person.
This is pretty huge. Companies have long claimed the people who use their platforms for work – delivering pizzas or driving taxis – are self-employed, leaving these workers with few protections.
For women, who face lower pay, unsafe conditions and sexual harassment, this shift could be a game-changer.
We won’t know exactly what governments will commit to until next year but the conversations are a good sign. Reporter Louise Donovan digs into the details

Three years ago, Roe v. Wade was overturned.
After nearly 50 years of abortion being a constitutional right in the U.S., the decision in Dobbs handed power back to the states; many of which have since banned or severely restricted access.
The fight for reproductive rights continues.

The Pan-African Conference on Family Values, held in Nairobi last month, sounds innocent.
In reality, among the Kenyan attendees were U.S. and European organizations who’ve reportedly spent tens of millions of dollars opposing LGBTQ rights, abortion access, and sex ed on the continent on the African continent. Some have been classified as hate groups.
So, who’s behind these groups? And what in their track record should concern supporters of women’s and LGTBQ+ rights? Reporter Allan Olingo, in Nairobi, looks into it. #africa #america #kenya #lgbt
Last week, Pope Leo XIV was elected as the world’s first U.S.-born pontiff.
After one of the shortest conclaves in recent history, he addressed thousands of cheering Catholics with the words: “Peace be with you all.”
But what are his views on women and queer people? And how does he stack up against the late Pope Francis, who brought a new wave of empathy to the church? #pope #popeleo #popefrancis #women #queerrights
The British writer’s new book delves into the world of artificial intelligence, examining how new technologies have misogyny baked into their design and are putting women in danger. Senior reporter Louise Donovan finds out more.
The New Age of Sexism is out now in the U.K. and available to pre-order in the U.S.
What does the rise of far-right political parties across Europe mean for women’s rights? Lucie Daniel, who works for French feminist organization Equipop, tells Fuller’s editor-in-chief, Eliza Anyangwe, that far-right political leaders, along with conservative religious groups, are working together to advance an “anti-rights, anti-immigration and anti-democratic agenda”.
And it may be hard to spot at first because they use the language of human rights: talking about “protection” and “freedom”.
So, what can citizens do about it?! Daniel is speaking to Europeans but the lessons applicable around the world:
❗️Support feminist movements
❗️Rally together
❗️Resist the backlash

British feminist author Laura Bates spoke to us about why self-styled ‘misogynistic’ influencers such as Andrew Tate have flooded our social media in recent years.
She explains his popularity is in part down to the way algorithms on platforms such as TikTok surface extreme content because it drives views and makes money.
From AI girlfriends to sex robots, Bates’ new book, The New Age of Sexism, takes a look at the impact artificial intelligence is having on women. Find reporter Louise Donovan’s longer conversation with her among our other YouTube videos.
Today is Juneteenth, a holiday to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States.
So what better opportunity to share the words of Brittney Cooper, who describes herself as a “writer, feminist, Southerner.”
Cooper’s work, at Rutgers University, brings together civil and women’s rights. Against the backdrop of the ongoing struggles for equity, her words are an encouragement to not give up, and to keep showing up.
“We teach, we work, we love, we read, we dance…,” she tells us. “These folks want to deny our humanity … so every time we continue to do those things…we say that this is the world that we want and we continue to fight for it.”
Happy Juneteenth!

This week, abortion was decriminalised in England and Wales.
The procedure is widely available but under an old Victorian-era law, it was also still – technically – a crime. This landmark decision will change that – and ensure no person can be criminally prosecuted for ending a pregnancy.
But did you know similar laws are still on the books in other European countries? In Germany and the Netherlands, you can still fall foul of the law for terminating a pregnancy despite the progressive abortion care on offer – especially in the latter.
These old laws matter because as backlash against reproductive rights grows globally, campaigners fear that they could be dusted off and used to criminalise more people.

Hundreds of millions of people globally earn a living through apps or websites.
Yet gig workers face a whole range of issues from low, unpredictable pay to being controlled by algorithms.
Right now, there are no binding international agreements that explicitly address their labor conditions.
That, however, looks set to change.
Reporter Louise Donovan has been at this year’s @ILO’s International Labour Conference in Geneva, where for the first time platform work is being addressed.
Over two weeks, the world’s governments, employers and workers will be discussing the issue, with the aim of drafting a set of international standards to better protect gig workers.
Any agreements reached here could shape the future of work forever.
