For decades, UK farms have relied on migrant workers. But just how many of them are women?
No one knows because the UK government doesn’t publish any data, nor does it seem to be tracking the experiences of these workers in an industry that often exploits them.
So why does this matter? Well, a new report from @focusonlabourexploitation8301 Focus on Labour Exploitation (FLEX), an organisation fighting labour exploitation, shows migrant women face stark inequalities, including working fewer hours than men, being paid less than promised, and battling sexual harassment.
As Lucila Granada, FLEX’s CEO, told Louise Donovan:
“To fix any problem, you need to know what the situation is, right?”
